What is the WhatsApp Business API?
The WhatsApp Business API, now called the WhatsApp Business Platform, is Meta's official way for medium and large businesses to use WhatsApp at scale. Unlike the free WhatsApp Business app, which is designed around a single phone, the API lets a whole team answer from one number, connects WhatsApp to your systems and supports automation, AI agents and messaging at volume.
The API has no app or screen of its own. Businesses use it through a platform built by a Meta Tech Provider or Solution Partner. Syncli is that platform: an official Meta Tech Provider based in South Africa, built on the WhatsApp Cloud API.
How to get the WhatsApp Business API in South Africa
- You need a WhatsApp Business number and a Meta Business Portfolio. Your existing number can usually move over.

What the WhatsApp Business API costs
There are two costs. Meta's per-message fees: from 1 October 2026 a marketing message to a South African number costs $0.0379 and a utility or authentication message $0.0095. Messages customers send you are free, each number gets 1,000 free service replies a month, and replies to Click-to-WhatsApp ad leads are free for up to 7 days.
